It's a pretty difficult situation because there's a real chance that your friendship may be jeopardised, though I couldn't relate more to the 'not ready to date, but being friends that like each other'. Even with bringing up romance and who the other person likes - that is definitely a sign. If you find yourself talking to him a lot and if he is giving you that attention in return, yeah that would seem to be the case. You could continue this way and see if he bites.
