atar calculation for higher atars (1 Viewer)

hey guys, idk if this question even makes sense/valid to ask but i think im just paranoid.

basically ik that if you do more than 10 units for HSC only your top 10 units (including at least 2 units of english (at least i think its at least, e.g. if you did 4u eng and did well in every unit all 4 units would count right?) would count. however i was just wondering when they decide on 99.95 atars do they need to differentiate between potential candidates if they all got theoretically the same set of marks for the same subjects (so scaling wont matter in this scenario) by using the scores from the extra units that weren't counted (similar to how for state ranks they would differentiate candidates based on working out or quality of answers depsite them all fitting the marking criteria, etc) or is it a purely numerical value that only ever accounts for the top 10 units?

as far as i know they dont put an x number cap on 99.95, if you're in the percentile after they do the scaling wizardry that's your atar. i've never heard of them counting extraneous units but i'm open to being wrong on that.

i wouldn't worry about the intricacies of a 99.95, you could be a perfectly bright student and study your ass off and fumble a question under pressure, have an off day, bomb a trial exam and drop ranks etc. expecting or even hoping for a perfect atar is just setting yourself up for a miserable year and likely disappointment.
