I dont have any tasks due in regards to this, but I want to get a head start on analysis and study for my related text(s) whenever I find one. The websites that Ive found all have the same stuff but I want to see if theres any additional recommendations.
The main topics that Im interested in might be feminist themes, social upheaval at the hands of hysteria and the role of religion in the unfoldings of the play. Im open to any recommendations though.

I would really appreciate any help!!

mate i don't think the crucible is about feminism. Just because there's a woman antagonist doesn't make it a story about feminism .💀 Maybe you could find some gay books which talk about effeminacy idk

Is the Handmaid's Tale a common choice? I feel like it would be

yeah maybe but that doesn't mean it's a bad choice. maybe ask your class teacher or any english teacher in your school that you know has done hsc marking for advanced english and see if they have any advice.

spending some of the time you waste on having a sook about english being a crap subject on actually working on your english work might help you understand better how as long as you provide reasonable justification you can essentially interpret a text however you please.

and yes the crucible is not about feminism however it aligns with the content of the common module texts and human experiences through the representations of the complex relationships of women through which they betray and malign each other for the reason of self-preservation, either to maintain their integrity as good Christian women or in Abigail and Elizabeth's case to fight for the attention of John Proctor.

in the handmaid's tale there is a link to be made as to how the women within the social structure of gilead also do the same time of thing. serena joy and offred are also fighting for the commander's attention technically and also the women put each other down to prop up their own status in a futile attempt to maintain some level of power and control in a world where they have none

hope the yap is useful to someone even if @nonya2000 doesn't get it

Where in handmaid tail was there hysteria 💀
mass hysteria is defined as "a condition affecting a group of persons, characterized by excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness" if you actually read the book you'd know this sums up the entire book pretty well

goated how
Well it got the author a nobel prize. Its better if u search it up and read about it but basically it deals with themes of memory and the past, in the genre of magical realism. U could very cleverly tie this as a related text to the crucible which equally uses the past to comment on the present etc.

you can interpret a text through any sociopolitical lens, but you're not going to get blood out of a stone, so unless a left-field question blindsides you its probably a better idea to stick to the themes that it can be reasonably supposed the author intended to explore.

the mere fact that women have a role in the text, and/or characteristics attributable to them being women doesn't at all mean it has anything to do with feminism. betrayal for the sake of self-preservation is not a gendered trait; even attempting to reason it through their efforts to conform to the contemporary paradigm of what is expected of women doesn't lend itself to any well-reasoned argument as to feminism. fighting for the attention of the opposite sex is certainly not a gendered trait either. there are recurring themes of female subordination to a patriarchy yes, but there is a clear distinction between exploring feminist themes in a text, and exploring a text through a feminist lens, the latter of which is mostly irrelevant unless the question asks for it.

in hindsight after going through the rubric more thoroughly, i do agree, the feminism idea isn't the best in terms of addressing questions in relation to the module. you could probably stick with the same text and explore herd mentality, self-preservation, corruption of the individual and society etc
