Physics and extension 2 maths? (1 Viewer)

Hello people,

I was wondering if mathematics extension 2 and physics topics overlap with each other? If so would it be beneficial to take both subjects since you would know the content and understand the concepts better?

to be specific one topic and only one topic has overlap - mechanics is an extension 2 topic which deals with modelling projectiles and oscillatory motion using calculus; this is also covered to some extent in physics, but with algebraic methods and taught in a very different way to ext2. ext2 mechanics isn't going to be conceptually heavy, it's more about the mathematical methods needed to solve equations like x double dot = x and things in the form F = ma. the one thing where physics can be helpful when taking ext 2 is with free body diagrams, but besides that you wouldn't feel much benefit from taking both physics and ext2 (besides from being more comfortable with algebra, since physics doesn't use calculus), and tbh there's only really been a few hsc questions where a free body diagram would be needed.

You'll also derive the equations for projectile motion, which you've memorised from physics, and when you consider oscillation to be a projection of uniform circular motion onto x/y axis, some ext 2 questions with heavy algebra can be solved in a few lines
