HSC students whose learning was significantly compromised for six weeks of term (30 school days) or more because of COVID-19 restrictions, meaning:
- they had no or very limited access to the internet or learning materials; or
- they lost access to essential specialised educational support; or
- the student’s home arrangements significantly compromised their participation in and ability to undertake remote learning and complete course-work.
Group applications can only be made by schools in the following LGAs of concern:
- Bayside
- Burwood
- Strathfield
- Penrith
- Campbelltown
- Georges River
- Parramatta
- Blacktown
- Cumberland
- Canterbury/Bankstown
- Fairfield
- Liverpool
Individual applications
If the application is upheld, the student will receive their moderated assessment mark, in place of their exam mark, unless their earned exam mark is higher.
Group applications
If the application is successful, students in a group application will receive a calculated exam mark, unless the earned exam mark is higher.
- If the group application is for only some of the students’ exams, NESA will use student and cohort performance in unaffected exams to calculate marks.
- If the group application is for most or all the students’ exams, NESA will use Year 11 grades, school assessment marks of the current cohort and past cohorts’ performance to calculate exam marks.
As part of the application process, a Special Consideration panel will interview the principal to assess the reasons for making the group application. The panel will also review the group application to ensure it focuses on those whose learning has been significantly compromised by COVID-19 restrictions.
