If you want to ultimately do postgraduate medicine what’s the lowest target ATAR to aim for?

Is it basically around 92 so that you can get into a pre-Med degree like science or physio? Or can you get into post-grad medicine from any degree if you get good GAMSAT results?

You could technically get a <30 ATAR and do BSc as a mature aged student and go well in the GAMSAT etc and get into med. ATAR has no bearing on this pathway. You could be a 32 year old accountant who wants to do a little career switch. You could be a bored arts-law student who doesn’t really want to finish the law part of the degree. You could’ve gotten 99.90 and are battling your way in bc you missed out in year 12. The pathway you take doesn’t matter at all.

How would you do the BSc without atar? Would you need to do some other exam first?

Depends on the uni but usually mature aged students have to do the STAT test or a diploma or otherwise. Usually the more generic degrees are more accessible e.g. BA or BSc (but I remember meeting one in actuarial so it's possible to get in a high atar course i guess).

Since you haven't got your ATAR yet, I'm guessing you haven't done your HSC yet. In that case why aim for postgraduate med? In your position it would be much better to aim for undergraduate or provisional med.
And you don't need to do a science related undergraduate degree, it can be from any field. Your ATAR also has no bearing on whether you can make it into postgrad med.

i’m asking for a friend with a kid (I’m a middle aged person). Agree best to aim for undergrad but I gather thatS extremely hard and takes a lot of work so won’t be attainable by many so just want to get an idea what the lower end of the ATAR range is (just good to have an idea of options)

is it harder to get into postgrad Med with some degrees than others (eg art) or does it purely depend on gamsat scores?
I understand that science degrees may make it easier to get a good gamsat score

92 atars getting into postgrad med are probably anomalies.

i’m asking for a friend with a kid (I’m a middle aged person). Agree best to aim for undergrad but I gather thatS extremely hard and takes a lot of work so won’t be attainable by many so just want to get an idea what the lower end of the ATAR range is (just good to have an idea of options)

USyd has encouraged a diversity of medical students for decades. Their double degree options with a guaranteed place in medicine are Bachelor of Arts/Doctor of Medicine or Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine. This course generally requires an ATAR of 99.95, but they keep the same philosophy for those who apply later and show no preference for undergrad science students.
