Hey, if anyone can answer this, that would be awesome!!

So I just discovered that for English advanced, there exists external markers that mark your internal assessments.
Are these external markers from private companies or are they assigned by NESA and are these external markers similar to the HSC markers (English teachers that have taught the syllabus) that mark the English HSC paper??

I've never heard that there were external markers that can mark internal assessments for English so I am worried that they might mark harshly/differently and could affect my marks.

I’ve never heard of trials being marked externally, but given that external companies write the papers, I wouldn’t be surprised that it’s a thing.

re: marking harshly, the moderation process will take care of that. External markers are probably more consistent than your English teachers (proper guidelines, no bias) so there’s probably not too much to worry about.

so are these people from private companies or are they high school teachers that registered to be an external marker from NESA?

I would assume that they're the teachers who work for the external trial companies. They may/may not be registered as a HSC external marker (marking the real HSC) at NESA. Since these companies are small I wouldn't worry about big discrepancies in the marking.

Some schools, usually private schools hire external markers to mark their trials to simulate the HSC marking. Although I haven't particularly heard of any company which specialises in external marking, I know private schools often form boards of markers (per subject) made up of people who mark for the HSC (note: HSC markers are simply teachers who register to mark the papers. They then are taught how to mark, but they aren't "from NESA").

External markers for trials are always teachers who have marked the actual HSC for that subject, or are very experienced and knowledgeable enough to mark it as if it were the actual HSC.

How long do these external markers take to mark? I would assume faster because they are paid by how many papers they mark right? I could be wrong I'm not sure.
It usually takes 2 teachers 3 weeks to mark 160 essays at my school.

My school's english trials were marked externally last year, apparently theyre very similar to school teachers' marking, only you wont get 0.5 marks because only one person is marking it.

I believe some of them are other high school teachers or hsc markers.

If you did your english exams at the start of the block, you should get them back in the first week of class.

do they mark the english papers digitally or on paper? if it does get marked digitally, would that mean we won't get a lot of comments since they can't comment along the margins?

This would depend a lot on how your school does it. Most likely it will just be on paper as you will likely get back your exam paper. My school had some external markers when I did trials and it was on paper. I wouldn't worry too much about the feedback, the people are likely qualified if they can get hired to mark externally and the school would probably require of them to give decent feedback as they are getting paid to mark it

They just give u a mark and a general feedback sheet. Not sure about you, but for my school thats what they did even if it was internally marked
