I need achieve at least 40% of the average mark for the 4 quizzes to pass my uni course. I'm not to sure how to calculate this?

All are weighted in 12.5% that make up 50% of my grade
  • 1.80/10
  • 10.00/20
  • 7.50/20
  • 7.50/10

Your average is 45.13% so you definitely passed! Since they are all weighted equally, the calculation is pretty simple - just find the average of all the percentages

Thank you, I was about to cry if I had to repeat that unit.

I'm being a bit paranoid here and might be wrong, but what if it is calculated by multiply the percentage of your mark by the weighting and add them up?

E.g.
1.80/10
18%
18x12.5%=2.25

10.00/20
50%
50x12.5%=6.25

7.50/20
37.5%
37.5x12.5%=4.6875

7.50/10
75%
75x12.5%=9.375

2.25+6.25+4.6875+9.375=22.5625

22.5625/4=5.640625

I have no idea what your doing on this line. You don't divide it by 4 because there's 4 tests, but rather by the total percentage.

To get the final mark in terms of a percentage you would have to do

because in total the weighting is out of 50. You need to do 12.5 * 4 as there's 4 tests each worth 12.5% which gives you 50.
