I'm guessing a high band 5, around 88/89 ,though Im not rlly sure cuz the cut off can change (I hope 70% raw will correspond to around 85 this year 🙏🏻)

I think 53 will be right at the cusp of an e4
How do you think our test compares in difficulty to those of previous years, cuz I thought last yrs exam was apparently hard but 80 raw was needed for an E4.

Looking at the database, It seems that in 2018 71 aligned to 89 and 80 aligned to 90. So I think, either 80 was the highest mark to align to 90 (ie cutoff was lower than 80), or someone entered a false data point. I highly doubt 80 was the cutoff last year, because after doing every post 2010 HSC paper, 2018 was one of the harder ones, and the average cutoff is in the mid 70s. I'd say, overall, this exam was average (if not a little on the harder side), meaning the cutoff would be like 76%.

Agreed. I think 71 to 89 was most accurate, it could be 80 was the extreme end of an e4 but highly unlikely. 2018 was defs the hardest of the MCQ (post 2011) tests, save maybe 2013, but I think it was also harder than 2013.

I see, thank you! I hope that will be the case this year !!!

Also, can someone explain the effect of your MX2 mark on your MX1 mark. Because if you do MX2 your MX1 goes to 2 units, so does that mean double the scaling?

It’ll be the same scaling but I suppose it’s effect will be doubled on your aggregate score as it counts as two units instead of one.

Your actual 4u mark does not affect your 3u mark at all. It is only used for state ranks (which do not affect to your atar).

Yeah, that won't be a concern...

Same, I only said that because I had no other option, so I fudged it. Definitely can’t be right though
The method I used to get the result in 14 c ii was taking the second derivative (i.e the concavity) and then referring to the odd nature of the sine curve in order to make the RHS negative. It sounds like what you did is along the right path

This is sad, I’d never thought my raw marks would ever come to this, but what would a 62/70 scale to? I legit don’t see the point in living anymore, never thought I’d be this depressed in my whole life 😭
The situation that I am in is literally the EXACT same as you dude, I smashed my trial with a score of 98.5 internal and then came into today hoping for a ranking and messed up on the easy questions (q13 projectile motion to be exact) despite getting the harder ones out. It’s okay, even though you feel like you’ve messed it all up there are a lot of other people in the same boat as you and I’m sure your mark will scale up to get you into whatever course you need.

Actually I argued the exact same with the concavities, but doesn’t seem right to me, hmm we’ll see. Also thanks for the support, it feels better than I’m not the only one going through this :)

Yeah I was pretty annoyed with the amount of silly mistakes I made in my 3U exam (recalled reading back the paper the moment I walked out and thought HOW DID I MISS THAT?) , when I thought I could have gotten a state rank, then again there were heaps who would have felt the same. Whilst I understand how it feels, you're obviously going to get into the course you want and you'll probably look back and think the extra few marks wouldn't make a difference in terms of progressing your uni career. Understand that once you start uni, you'll start at zero along with everyone else who has gained entry to the course, regardless of state rank, so you won't be at any disadvantage what so ever especially since your 3U marks doesn't come close to defining your true mathematical aptitude.
Also I'm pretty sure there's no real advantage with getting a state rank aside from getting a tutoring job tbh, it's more of a pride thing.

With that being said, it's best to just focus on your next exam and/or enjoy your time off mate, you deserve it.

Guys I was wondering for Q14b part iii, I proved f(x1) is negative and f(x2) is positive therefore alpha is between x1 and x2, but I forgot to prove x2 is greater than x1. However I remember in part i I explained that alpha has to be greater than k (which is x1), so could it still count?
