Hey,

I was wondering if students applying interstate are disadvantaged or not considered in main round offers? For example, as a NSW student, if I applied for Monash or University of Adelaide, would I be considered after the Victorian or South Australian students respectively or would I require a higher UMAT and/or ATAR? No in general but yes in a small way for some unis. For example UNSW interviews NSW applicants in the Dec+Jan 1st rounds then interstate applicants in the Feb 2nd round. The cutoff score for 2nd round place offers is never higher than 1st round offers, interstate applicants are not disadvantaged.

With the other unis
- Monash: 1st round interview offers to VIC students require a reasonable ATAR+UMAT combo, otoh 2nd round interview offers to interstate students require *very high* ATAR+UMAT. However I believe place offer scores are similar. What that means is interstate applicants who are invited to Monash interviews have very high chances, probably 80%+, of getting a place. But (unlike for UNSW) interstate applicants with average or low chances don't even get invited.

- Adelaide: interstate applicants are interviewed in both 1st round (UMAT heavy) & 2nd round (ATAR heavy). SA students get a bonus UMAT score resulting in more of them invited to interviews but the UMAT bonus does not count in the final ranking.

- UTas: a big part of the intake quota is reserved for Tas students, very few places left for interstate applicants.

- JCU: I read that local students are given a higher rurality index thus better chances. Similar to WSU favouring GWS students.

Edit: Important to note 2nd round Med offers are *mostly* for those attending 2nd round interviews i.e. interstate applicants. It's not all the same context as 2nd round offers for non-Med courses which are like second life chances.
