So if I got offered into UWS can I still change my preferences around for the main rounds in January? Do I still need UWS in the preference list?

If you would like to change your preferences you will need to first accept your offer and ensure that you have a student ID. Once you have accepted your offer, you may change your preferences as you see fit in order to be eligible for other offers.

Afaik this is false.
You can change your preferences around as much as you want. When I was applying to uni I would just delete whatever I got in the previous round.

Accept the offer, but don't go get a student ID. Lol
Unless you want to collect them from different universities.
