I guess conics is useful to some extent, only to a specific group of people (astronomers) however statistics is more useful and applied to everyday life hence it would replace conics

JUST do what you want. Or research

Usually unis only require 3U for the harder first year maths courses though for your reference. Apparently the first year course I do is the hardest first year maths course and it just expected a really high mark in 3U (or a substantially high 3U + 4U mark)

Don't think there's HSC prerequisites at the moment, just 'assumed knowledge' (though HSC 2U Maths will be becoming a prerequisite for many degrees at USyd).
