Hey guys, I'm having trouble considering USYD Comp Science or UTS science in IT, Please help me out, and discuss why you would choose one over the other.
THanks

You should check whether you'd want to to work in IT or computer science first.

In b4 people spam UNSW

Well with both degrees, I can end up taking any jobs that use coding, e.g software developer, and etc. But atm just not sure which one would be better. Im leaning towards UTS science in IT coz they have a diploma year.

IT is different from computer science. Try for UNSW. If you're doing IT, maybe UTS. Computer science, maybe USYD.

Usyd, Comp sci. =! I.T . Proper software design requires an actual understanding of computing theory not some dead in 5 years education in SAP and SAS. At the end of the day people do I.T because they like computers but don't want to do the proper math required in CS.

According to James Currant BIT at USyd > CS in terms of atar req, but the actual course content is close enough that you could technically transfer between the two without trouble. Meanwhile, UTS CS > UTS IT. Again, this all appears to be prestige, but I would personally go for USyd because reputation.

I would like to dispute bob101 in that in both degrees you learn about comp sci :p whether the universities decided to label it IT or CS is quite arbitrary.

IT and CS are quite different. You do some programming in both but that doesn't mean the courses are the same.
Also a higher atar requirement doesn't mean a course is better.

UTS doesn't even offer computer science, just I.T or a meh software engineering degree...

comp sci is closer to software engineering than IT
True, but their software engineering is a specialisation of information and communication technologies engineering, which is really a mix of wireless and electrical engineering with like 2 software courses..

I found that really strange as well. Their name really misleads you.

Does any body have an idea of the actual benefit of pursuing BIT over comp science degree at usyd

Other than actual job experience in your degree? Not much tbh, very different industry at the end of the day...
