Really? What? I was under the impression that people with seminars later on in the week would get godly marks because most had screenshots of the questions.
That's what I expected. But lic said Monday had the highest average

coz friday is where all the drop kicks decide they can leech off their peers, and not study as much. Monday people would also be studying like crazy over the weekend, whereas people over the week will think they have the time.

Re: UNSW Chit Chat Thread 2015.

Will it be hard if I did two fins subjects next sem (2nd year 1st sem), FINS1612 and FINS2624?

Any reviews on lecturers Jason Zein or Natalie Oh like which one is superior for 1612?

Re: UNSW Chit Chat Thread 2015.

For all the first year actuarial students at UNSW, Sherris has uploaded the paper and solutions for the midsem quiz we did yesterday.

Take note of two things -

a) After some emailing with Sherris, Sherris has now agreed to mark A and C correct for Q5. And for Q6, they're marking both C and D as correct.

b) If you did get a question wrong, marks will be given to you for your working :)

EDIT - The solutions uploaded by Sherris to Moodle have been updated to reflect a). :)

The two courses actually complement each other (to an extent), so it would be beneficial to take both courses in the same sem.

Re Jason Zein (sem 1 LIC), he's quite good. Don't know about Natalie Oh.

Thanks for the reply. Two quick questions, how better is Joakim Bang compared to Henry Yip and how much harder is 2624 compared to 1613?

Joakim is excellent, but not sure if he's still with the uni. Henry Yip no longer takes 2624, so you don't need to worry about him just yet. (The difficulty of Henry's tests are overrated btw.)

I personally found 2624 quite easy ... the math is simple if you know your basic algebra and stats.

Re: UNSW Chit Chat Thread 2015.

So ACCT1511 has three in-class quizzes each worth 10%. And then a final exam worth 70%.

The thing with the in-class quizzes is that they have to be done in your seminar, on a internet-capable device (e.g. tablet, laptop) you bring along.

However, if you're not able to bring such a device or forget to do so, the 10% for that quiz gets shifted to your final. So, if you attend all your seminars but don't bring such a device to any of the three in-class quizzes, then all that 30% gets shifted to your final, which then becomes 100% of your final mark.
Okay, so it seems like that the bolded part was a common misinterpretation by students. The LIC has clarified:

Some of you are suffering from an incorrect understanding about the 10 mark final exam re-weighting. This is NOT automatic. If you did not sit test 1, test 2 or test 2 without an application for Special Consideration then you will receive a mark of zero out of 10. It is only with documentation such as a medical certificate that students are able to apply for a re-weighting to their final exam.

A deferred test 2 is being offered for those who are sick or have religious reasons. In order to sit the deferred test 2 you must apply for this through the Special Consideration section of myUNSW. You need to have a medical certificate or religious reasons or other valid reason to miss the test.

Test 3 - the same will apply application to sit the deferred test will be made via myUNSW Special Consideration.

That sounds much more fair!!

Re: UNSW Chit Chat Thread 2015.

ACCT1511 marks are now out on moodle and absolutely shrekked everyone. Reportedly, the average for the Friday classes for example was less than three out of ten.
Posted on Moodle that cohort-wide average for accounting test 1 was 5.47 and a standard deviation of 3.07

Re: UNSW Chit Chat Thread 2015.

Planning to do ACTL2111, ACTL2131, ARTS2210 and FINS1613 next sem.

Going to be many early starts!!

* ACTL2111 - Lecture on Thursday 9AM to 11AM. Tutorials only offered on Wednesday and Thursday

* ACTL2131 - Lecture 1 on Monday 9AM to 11AM. Lecture 2 on Thursday 12PM to 1PM. Tutorials only offered on Monday and Thursday

* ARTS2210 - Lecture on Wednesday 9AM to 11AM. Tutorials only offered on Wednesday

* FINS1613 - Tutorials offered everyday. Lecture timeslot options are - Monday 2PM to 4PM, Monday 6PM to 8PM, Tuesday 10AM to 12PM, and Tuesday 4PM to 6PM

If I'm lucky/smart with timetabling, I could get Tuesday and Friday off - either way, I'm near-certain having one day off!
