Eleven units in year 12? (1 Viewer)

Hey forum,

Soon, the time will come for the year 11 cohort to transition to their HSC year and that means dropping/picking up extension subjects. So I was wondering what were your opinions on doing eleven units in year 12? Will it be worth it spending time on another subject to provide that little extra security or is it better to spend that time concentrating solely on those ten units.

I'm going in with eleven( 10 units but catholic studies is counted as 1(non atar)), so just focusing on those 11 units will be better than wasting time on other subjects which you know is backup. So concentrate on ten if I was you

11 is definitely fine, especially if it's an extension subject that you enjoy and are good at. Even though there's a lot of work involved for just a 1u subject, the high scaling of say ext 2 maths or to a lesser extent ext 2 eng/hist ext will be worth it if you do well.
However if you're still on 12 units by the end of year 11 and planning to pick up an ext sub then it's prob best to drop your weakest 2u subject otherwise you'd end up with 13 units which is, IMO, unnecessary. But 11 is completely fine and doable. More than half my grade is still on 12 units haha (hsc year)

11 is meant to be the 'optimum level' so yeah should be good

I was never a fan of 11 units There's just that 1 unit going to waste, which won't count for anything but takes away time you could have spent on subjects that will actually matter.

But most people go with 11 units (partly I think because they do an extension subject they want to do). So it just depends on you, if you want extra security or if you're very sure you won't stuff up 10 units.

- Advanced English;
- Extension English (one odd unit);
- Economics;
- Physics; and
- 4U mathematics

Would it be too much work balancing extension English and 4U maths? :/ Of course I'll be able to drop extension English any time I wish. It'd be nice if anyone with experience can comment on this combination of units.

keep it and see if you can manage it, if you feel you can't drop it.
