Sorry to say but both the ranks are just terrible, someone had to say it and I guess it was me... Imo this is the part of estimations that I dont like to do and its quite rare for me to say something negative thus improve.

yes i agree; that was a little mean. OP has done what s/he could do throughout the year and if those ranks are his/her best and s/he tried then so be it

But if you look at it from a different perspective which I look at these ranks with, OP and his/her friend have gone to school for 12 years (possibly more if one of them repeated) and for them to get an ATAR of around 60-75 or whatever it's kind of a disappointment, it really is. If OP and friend didn't enjoy school and slacked off and didn't put in their best effort... well that's a different story. You are also right, if that was their 100% then let it be it.
