I go to Truongs (Ngo and Sons), and I'm in a bit of a situation here. I'm in year 10 and I find it alright there, the are only 2 problems, there are a lot of wrong answers in their worksheets and the class asking a lot of homework questions.

I recently, found out about the idea of private tutoring (1 on 1 or a small group (2-5)) and I thought it was a great idea to go with my own speed and not let the class slow me down. But I've also been hearing good things about Truongs, same for small group tutoring. I need people that go or went to Truong's to vouch it for me, I'm not sure if I could continue or switch to private tutoring. People say you lose the competitive classroom atmosphere in private tutoring, can't make up my decision here.

If you think the class is "slowing you down" then I suggest you go private tutoring (or maybe a place like Dr. Du where you're constantly pressured to do well by weekly quizzes, etc).

I dont understand whats wrong with asking questions. I dont think they have that many wrong answers lol. And yeah, if u think its too slow, go to a higher or accelerated class. :)

Yeah I quit the accelerated class because I didn't want to attend 3 maths classes, 1 catch-up, 1 normal, and 1 accel. And we already covered the stuff in accel at school already, I'm not moving up classes anymore because I'm waiting for the exit exam.

I just want to know the environment after the exit exam, are the classes crowed? Are the 3u/4u teaching good and is it just going to be filled with James Ruse people?

yeah, the classes are crowded and full of selective school kids.

I'd say stick with Truongs! I guess you could try out a session with a private and see how it goes but in my opinion, truong's lessons are more structured and he knows what he's going to do next and what to cover in a certain amount of time.

Yeah, and they have years of experience and even teach you stuff like tips and extra formulas that might not be covered in school but help you out so much (and makes things ten times easier) nonetheless. Im in Mr Mai's class and he makes you feel really motivated to study with his stories. Just stick with it a little longer and if you dont like it well, just choose the option that you think is best for you. You might work better with a private tutor, who knows. :)

Thanks guys, I guess I'm sticking with Truongs. Any tips for exit exam, I came in year 9 and I basically skipped a lot of topics because I kept moving up classes D; and my catch-up class is ditching about 5 topics because it's behind. Do I have to use their methods to do questions because I have my own more efficient methods towards topics.

I've been to truongs and I've had experiences with private tutoring as well. Imo, truongs is only good if you're gifted enough to keep up. It's harder if you don't regularly study and make an effort to understand the content because tbh truongs is rote learning math. I quit when they finished the accelerated course and found I didn't have a strong conceptual understanding of the topics (maybe because I also cbb studying because in year 10 we weren't required to differentiate trig) also the environment wasn't nice but overall truongs was alright.

In terms of private, you REALLY need a good tutor. I had a pretty shit one for two weeks and just couldn't do it anymore lol so you need to be careful in that respect.

Also ask yourself why do you even need a competitive environment? In some cases it actually hampers your learning because you always have this extra mental anxiety and stuff. Tbh you don't need the competitive environment to do well.

If you are looking at staying at truongs, I think my main tips with exit exam is that you know the basics really well. If you're in the accelerated classes, it kinda doesn't matter because I pretty much Asian failed my exam and still stayed in the top accelerated class LOL so yeah dw about it too much
