I heard that there are some universities which let you do medicine, purely based on your merit in HSC. Is this true?
Can I really do med without UMAT?

In some ways yes. Usyd only considers a 99.95 atar and nothing else whereas umat is mandatory for UNSW and other universities. You should do the UMAT unless you can get that atar or some other university that doesn't require it.

Griffith again it's 99.95. BOND if you get over a certain ATAR (I think 98 or 98). Not sure about UQ or UWA but all other universities in Australia will require the UMAT or GAMSAT.

Griffith is 99.65, USYD is 99.95, UMELB is 99.9 and JCU is dependant on a lot of factors eg application but still usually requires a 97+.

goodluck.
