i was told cos rule but i legit did cos rule on 4 booklets, around 16 attempts and still didnt get it

What's the go with only getting one booklet per question to start with? I used at least two for each question...

Please someone tell me that you get some marks for working out? since I got about 20% of the answers wrong.

It was 1/XY = 1/AD + 1/BC, but I used ratio intercept theorem parallel lines cut transversals in equal ratio or something like that and also the corresponding sides in the similar triangles and from there developed a relation. Don't have the diagram to explain, but that took me forever.
