YO I'm on holidays now and I'm going into year 12 next term and not sure what I should do. Should I study ahead?
Or should I chill?

Maybe I should read my English texts now..what do you guys reckon? What worked for you?

Cheers

Personally:

If you did badly in Year 11 and major holes in your understanding in subjects like Maths where HSC builds upon Prelim knowledge I would spend one week patching that up to the best of your ability and then rest.

If you are reasonably happy with Prelim and don't have any major knowledge gaps just relax, read the english text you are doing this term but not all of them because you will just have to read them again closer to the time you are studying them. It's your last holiday really so just make the most of it if you can afford to because HSC year is exhausting and the work never really stops

Don't do any intensive studying. Use the holidays as time to clear your mind before you actually start year 12. Start reading your English texts as you probably wont have as much time when you start school. If you really do want to start though, I suggest you just read the first couple of pages in your textbooks and take about 1-2 hours of your day revising what you learnt. That's basically what I did during the break before year 12.

I'm wondering what I should do these holidays too...
I'm not the sort of person who is likely to study 8 hours a day and go back to school more exhausted than I was before the holidays, because I'm an absolute procrastinator, BUT if I set myself specific goals - what to do for each subject then I would definitely have time to do it.
Does anyone have any specific advice on stuff that will really help me out next term? :)

My subjects are:
3U Maths
Advanced English
French Beginners
Italian Continuers
Italian Extension
Studies of Religion 1

If you're Asian, study 10 hours a day.

If you're not Asian, go to the beach every day and party every night. Then start studying a couple of days before your first assessment next term.

My school did not completely finish the year 11 course for maths (polynomials, some further trig), and so I will be learning it in the holidays.

Thanks for the tip. ;) I'm not Asian but neither am I part of the partying scene.

Ummm, that sounds like year 11. I'm a fairly high achiever without having to work toooo hard, but I don't want to repeat my year 11 tactics again this year.

Does anyone have any specific subject advice? I'm wondering how I can best get ahead on the languages. They're my absolute passion (obviously, since I barely do any other subjects) and if have an idea of what to do then I will do it for enjoyment, not just for study.

I always suggest to my students that they clear out their Year 11 stuff and get their folders etc organised for next year. Having a clean work area is a good way to clear the mind as well. I also advise them to have a good break - but our kids don't finish their exams until Friday this week so they are really in need of a break anyway.

Would you still relax if you failed year 11?
I would slack off..... But I wouldn't go hard out (or you will hate life and burnout). I think that 5 or 6 hours a day should be suffice.

Defs take some sort of break, you'll need it, although i dont see why people say it is your last holiday. It really isnt. Unless youre some hardcore james ruse kid, you wont be studying much during the 6 week holiday. So my advice to you is just focus on smashing THIS term only, then worry about the rest later. For maths, definitely patch up any issues you have from year 11. For people who do chem, revise your mole calculations as you will be needing them.
