This is the question:

How does the structure of The Fiftieth Gate represent a thesis about the relationships between documented history and personal memory? Has your study of other representations of history and memory supported this thesis? Explain your point of view by referring closely to The Fiftieth Gate and ONE other text of your own choosing.

So how would you structure this? Would it be like:

Fiftieth Gate- History

Fiftieth Gate- Memory

Related Text- History

Related Text- Memory

But you need to talk about their interplay and structure's influence on it. I'm confused :/ Any help would be appreciated!

a way you can structure your essay for this question is as following :

both prescribed and related text about documented history
both precribed and related text about personal memory
both prescribed and related text about interplay of history and memory

Mark Raphael Baker’s novel is a combination of fiction and non-fiction which is brilliantly used to express history and culture and what can be achieved when history and memory are fused together to create an impression of the past and its connection with the present in a unique and evocative way. Baker takes us on a journey through the history of his parents as holocaust survivors, casting light on their memories hidden by pain and despair and through the process takes his own journey of self discovery. Baker’s occupation as a historian helps verify the memories and accounts of his parents; Baker uses techniques such as official documents like birth and death certificates, letters, archival documents as well as oral recordings of the memories of his parents as holocaust survivors
