(12x11x10x9x8x7x6x5) over (8x7x6x5x4x3x2) = 495
(10x9x8x7x6x5x4) over (7x6x5x4x3x2) = 120
495 x 120 = 59400

do you know this one.

win lotto you must correctly select the six correct winning numbers from a possible 24 numbers. to increase their chances of winning some players take a systems entry. This means selecting more than six numbers. for example a system 7 is where 7 numbers are chosen and is equivalent to all combinations of six numbers that can be chosen within 7. find the probability of winning lotto if
i. a system 7 entry is played
ii. a system 8 entry is played
iii. a system 15 entry is played

Perms and Combs is in general maths. They should know how to use the nPr and nCr notation. The only difference is that general students deal with smaller numbers whereas 3U and 4U students deal with larger numbers. Funnily enough, only 2U students have no idea what perms and combs are haha

Yeah the funny thing was we had students drop ext.1 due to perms and combs and then they were so bad at 2-unit that they were forced to drop.
Then I told them that they could have had the capability of 4-unit if they tried harder, because half our ext.1 class got there.
