UNSW Commerce or ANU dual law? Mid year intake question! (1 Viewer)

I took a gap year but I want to go back and study
I am considering dual law at ANU and commerce or combined commerce at UNSW. I live in Sydney with my parents and I don't really want to waste money moving out, but law is a great career and my mum says it opens many doors, however the money is an issue and I like living in Sydney with family and friends. I also know UNSW has a great reputation for commerce but are too many people doing it? Will I get a job? I got some scholarship money from UNSW too so I'd basically be gaining money in going there. However I want a good job and a happy life So what does everyone think? Thankyou!

TBH, I think I would've found the commerce component a LOT easier if I hadn't slacked off. But in saying that, I personally find it interesting (too bad it doesn't reflect in my marks -.-).

Will I get a job?

I don't know if you will get a job. Heck, I don't even know if I will get a job. However, from what I've read there are numerous ways to obtain a job, some of which include:
- via your network of friends or connections
- a high level of academic success

Both opportunities of which will be presented to you by attending a uni.

(I have no idea if that made sense. Kinda lost myself there..)

I wouldn't do law if you dont enjoy it. The work is tedious and you really need to enjoy it to get the most out of it. If you don't enjoy it, chances are you are not going to do well in it and that doesn't make you any more employable than just a single commerce degree.

If you do do it, think about it wisely. You are spending 5 years somewhere without friends and families. Are you willing to do that if that course is not what you like?

That said, Law is a very flexible degree. You can work in corporate law, in house legal, legal aid, DPP etc. You don't even have to be a lawyer. You can be a consultant or do tax, etc.
