How much you climb depends on how much effort you are willing to put in compared to the rest of your cohort

What if i get high 80s / low 90's in the trials and my cohorts do average?

If you get a high rank, then your ranks will soar :)
Trials are worth a lot! So they are really important and can be a real game changer rankings wise!

Good luck! :)

define average. it could be mid 90s(unlikely) in which case ur not relatively good lol
also to climb to higher ranks (top 15% from average), aim to beat average by 25-30% for every if not all tests from now

I found that for me personally, having a specific percentage in mind wasn't as effective when I studied as having a specific rank in mind

Think something like
"This is my best subject so I want to get first! By the time the HSC subject starts I want to be top 5" - or just something like that!

of course you're aiming for the best rank possible (1) but im saying from my experience usually 25-30% above the mean is the top 5. personally i never aimed it that way too, but after looking back at my assessments i beat the mean by 30% every time
