It's on.

Simon Crean calls for a spill of all leadership positions. Will stand for deputy.

Ball now in Gillard's court. If she does not call a vote, there will be a caucus petition circulated to force a caucus meeting.

UPDATE: Gillard has called a spill for 4.30pm.

I'm not a fan of Crean but he can't be more incompetent than Swan.

Re: 2013 Federal election

Surprised that to date the SMH seems to be doing a better job covering this than The Australian

"Mr Crean said that when he informed Ms Gillard of his decision she had told him she would not be calling a spill."

Not surprising. Interested in hearing her formal statement and whether she's planning on running with this or not.

Surprising that Crean calls for the spill right before question time.

I hope gillard just chucks a massive dummy spit and quits the party and parliament.

Anyway, whatever, I'm not too fussed, it's no secret that I think gillard is a great PM but I concede she is an awful at politics. And whilst I think Rudd is a populist twat, he's a better populist twat than abbot.

I back team Labor regardless of who the leader is (unlike some here....)

Strange QT. She's almost enjoying herself. Perhaps resigned to her fate?

She's pretty much gone unless she can win a decisive victory. A narrow victory will still fatally wound her.

I can't see her getting anything like the numbers of the spill last year.

Sportsbet:
Who will win the next Labor leadership ballot
Kevin Rudd 1.10
Julia Gillard 6.00

Re: 2013 Federal election

Rudd backer and former Labor power broker Graham Richardson claimed Mr Rudd had 49 votes, Ms Gillard 44 and that nine were undecided. Ms Gillard's number crunchers mocked this claim as an attempt to generate momentum for a spill before Parliament rises on Thursday night for seven weeks.

Oakeshott, Windsor and Wilkie voted with the Opposition.

The motion was always going to fail because of pairs meaning there couldnt be an absolute majority, so i presume the independents were sending the ALP a warning message.
