So basically i know myself and many others who are interested in/about to start living in residential colleges are interested in what the deal is with overnight sleepovers while staying in college. Could any past residents from unsw or usyd colleges tell what it is really like, eg what are the rules, are they easy to get around and sneak people in, can it be on short notice or does it have to be requested in advance? I've tried to look in forums but havent found much, and i don't know anyone already there to ask. Thanks for any help!

Particular colleges will have different rules but in general you can have whoever you like stay in your room, so long as they don't 'live' there. Anything over a couple of days in a row will generally see people asking questions. Meals for that person generally have to be paid for, and usually they can't wander the college halls by themselves (must be accompanied). You also can't give them your key.

At womens college (usyd) no notice is required, just have to sign visitor names in a book (oh&s). If you want to botrow a futon you can, but you will need to give advance notice to 'book' it and collect for that night. Even at women's college at USYD it's perfectly fine to have boys over - just make sure they use the male bathrooms and, a slightly quirky rule, no boys at breakfast. Sancta college I believe are a bit stricter.

Right, my parents want me to go to sancta but the impression i have been given from people my age (no offense to sancta students its just what ive been told) that sancta is kinda the dorky, all girls catholic one, and really strict, like my horrible all girls high school, which I obviously dont want. Are the stereotypes about Sancta true?

Well I went to Womens so I'm probably a little biased on that front - but I do think women's provides a good intermediate between being an all girls college but not being prissy/head in the sand about boys etc. there's a a lot of interaction between women's and Paul's college, as well as the others.

I was under the impression sancta was more strict about boys, but you would have to check. I'm probably only repeating rumours.
