Hi guys,
I have a teacher that doesn't know much about engineering and he talks rubbish which never relates to the course. (Can't even do basic multiplication or subtraction...) so I have to self study at home... This year I came first in the subject with a final mark of 73/100 where the average mark in engineering is below 30 (the student who came 2nd got 50/100). Should I drop engineering studies and spend that time studying for my other subjects?

Cheers,

If you want to do engineering at university, continue with it.

Yeah, I'd like some advice on that too.
1/8 in Engineering for Year 11
School rank 20
Other ranks:
DT: 1/14 ( I enjoy it more than engo)
Phys: 11/75
Chem: 17/75
3U Maths: 7/114
2U Maths: 50/120 (wasn't feeling well during exams lol)
English: 45/120

I don't know why but I'm not really liking the course atm
Engineering is my backup after Med at uni (so quite likely ill end up doingit)

You guys really should have a look at the scaling of the subject. Its difficulty really isn't worth it and it's probably much more worthwile to spend the time you would have spent in Engineering Studies on other subjects.

To be honest, I don't plan doing an engineering course. Probably, aviation (flying stream) at UNSW. I'll drop it I guess, since it's just restricting me from spending that valuable time on other subjects.

Cheers everyone for your input :)

If you can, drop it immediately.
-Terrible teacher
-Low scaling subject
-High workload
-High difficultly

I dropped it after year 11 even when I was doing well and had a good teacher , still no regrets. (I knew it will most likely not count to my ATAR)

EDIT ^ didn't see above post. Wise choice :)

That sums it up for anyone else thinking about dropping.

Drop, drop, drop, drop, drop! You need an at least decently competent teacher, if the teacher is as bad as you say then gtfo of there.

Yeh many tend to drop as it is quiet a complex subject, and requires a very strong teacher.

It has alot of hard concepts and its a very jam packed exam. But I had a good teacher which made engineering awesome. So if you have a crap teacher drop it soon.

My teacher wasn't to great in prelim but we had fun, in the HSC year they really stepped it up and we learnt alot.
So it really depends, maybe stick around for a little while and if 12 units gets to much drop it.
