I agree with you 100% that English is the WORST and STUPIDEST subject that I know of. What we learn in English is absolutely bs in my opinion, and I really doubt the composers of texts/movies even think about in depth to what we go to in English. So as long as you have a brilliant vocabulary full of words no one uses on a day to day basis, and is the best bull shitter in the world, you'll do well in English.
Some people however, like myself, have to endure this crappy ass boring subject which makes no sense to me really and allow this subject to pull down my ATAR dramatically (my worst subject!). It's not like I don't try in English... I spent AGES writing up an essay which only gets me 12/20 when I could've finished doing a whole chapter of maths or writing up my notes for another subject. I even forked out $60 an hour for english tutoring for 8 months, hoping to get higher marks... however failed to achieve a rank of below 100.
And yes, some people complain saying "What language are you speaking right now? English? yeah, ofcourse you need it in your life".. but the point is, what we learn in english isn't what we're going to use to communicate effectively with one another. When I talk to people I'm not going to start analysing our conversation to understand what lies at the heart of the human condition, because honestly... idgaf.
What I find horrendous, is that I can perform well in most of my subjects (well above average)... however, in English, even the dumbest of students (ie. the ones who go out drinking, taking drugs and partying every Friday night) can still be able to beat me in English without trying or putting any effort into writing essays.
In my school, I find english quite bias as well... throughout the entire year (including trials), we had to write our first and last names on the paper... they didn't even give us a choice of putting our student number on it =_=
English = FML

That post was beyond terrible

The first part was him moaning about how he is not very good at the subject, which is more his problem than that of the subject. Furthermore, top quality essays are not just bullshit with an excellent vocabulary, often they are concise, to the point and demonstrate a clear and priginal understanding of the texts.

English helps develop your skills in writing and reasoning coherently, something that is tremendously important in later life.

How are the students "dumb" if they are beating you? That technically makes you dumber. Stop generalising that just because a student studies less than you or has more of a social life that they don't deserve their marks.

That bias is something that is an issue with your school, not the subject.

Fair post, but I laugh at the part that I've underlined. REASONING? ENGLISH IS ALL BS MATE! You really think say Ridley Scott planned for all the stuff that happened in Blade Runner? He was just making a sci-fi film! We can just assume what he was trying to achieve. As for skills in writing, English has NEVER taught me that. English is more about finding a way to bs your way around a question to answer it using techniques and analysis that go far beyond the composer's intentions.

Well English gives me a fighting chance against international students as well as people who are only good at maths and science, so it's a decent subject. :)

Have you read or seen any interviews with Ridley Scott. A LOT of the symbolism in the movie and a lot of the key themes were planned from the get go.

Many films and texts required years of planning and each scene is tuned to get the message across. There is more to film than just entertainment

My promise to very one is that when I become a teacher hopefully within 5 years, I WILL make HSC English not compulsory. This is my guaranty to you all.

Gotta make this quick: There is no valid argument against saying why English should be compulsory.

-HSC English isn't even actual English; yes English until the end of year 10 is valid but not HSC English
-Least face the facts HSC Math and Science is far greater importance to society and the ever expanding developed world
-Imagine if you made e.g. at least General Math or Senior Science compulsory, would this be accepted?

Look around you even you reading this with your screen and typing with your keyboard, It wasn't developed with English?

It was Science and Math and I DON'T see them two subject’s compulsory do I? Please stop this argument, HSC English will no longer be compulsory within I say at least 10 years my promise.

Hardly. A poorly justified argument is usually torn to shreds
No, as long as it's bs'ed well enough it will be accepted. Because at the end of the day..english is "our own interpretation".
