Lets say you only had limited reliance or help from your teacher and your just average/below-average at English.
From the start of year 12, is it possible to achieve a band 6 in advanced english without putting too much effort so it could affect the marks of your other subjects?

What would be the likely case?

You could get high band 5 or low band 6 with this if you're an average student.

I did this in standard and got 86 (teacher was hopeless, and I'm not great at English). You just need to put some work in.

Write practice essays, know your texts. If you could get someone (like another english teacher or tutor) to read your essays, that would be even better.

It would be hard for you to know the standard for a Band 6 essay if you don't have help from an objective marker. It's possible, but hard. Considering most schools probably don't get above 50% of students getting Band 6's (unless it's like a very small school), the average student will probably not get higher than a high 80's score. Getting mid-80's is relatively easy for an average student, but the effort needed to go from 88 to 90 is much more and harder than from 85 to 88.

Statistically, in 2011, 44% of the state achieved Band 5, i.e. the average student was somewhere in the mid Band 5 region, so if you're only average/below average, then you're looking at around mid Band 5.
