For 3.c. just sub in the value of p and q into the points and find the gradient of OP and OQ. Use angle between the two lines.

I understood that though I was a bit confused on how to get the gradient. (Is it m= (ap^2-a)/2ap)?)

isn't Mop = ap^2/2ap = p/2?

Nope.

O (0,0) P(2ap,ap^2)

Finding gradient:

OP = {ap^2 - 0} / {2ap-0}
= p/2.

Sub in P.

Do the same with OQ.

Question 3.d.

We know the equation of the tangent and it is given that at P t=p and at Q t= 2p. So we sub these two values into the equation of the tangent to give two different equations right?

So you have to find out where they intersect via simultaneous equations. This point is R. When you receive R, solve the x and y value simultaneously to eliminate the parameter, p.

Once p is eliminated, you will get the Cartesian equation. Obv with a little bit of tidying up.

I have reached the part where I have gotten the x value (3ap) and the y value (2ap^2) though I'm not too sure how you can turn it into a Cartesian equation. (how to eliminate p)

x = 3ap
y = 2ap^2

ap = x/3

y = 2(x/3)p

p = x/3a

y = 2(x/3)(x/3a)

and so on.

Just another algebraic approach to it incase you need it for future use.

i just realised i overcomplicated things.

coulda just made p = x/3a

y = 2a(x/3a)^2
= 2x^2/9a

This was another I did not understand

Find the values of the real numbers A and B such that

x^4=(x^2+Ax+2)(X^2+Bx+2)

Also, maths got serious.

I've handed in my form to alter my timetable (so technically I'm in the 4u class at this moment), though if I don't get a good mark I'm immediately kicked. :(

equating co-efficients?
I know it has something to do with this though I do not understand what the term means or anything about this term.
