Should i choose Chinese Heritage for Year 11 Subject Selection? (1 Viewer)

It's a new board developed course, so i don't think that many people are doing it yet.
I am eligible for it, but I'm kind of worried about the scaling for the course...
Should I do it as the 15th unit or only pick 13 units?

I don't plan on spending too much time on it, it will be kind of like a back up subject in case i want to drop 2 other subjects.

I'm doing tutoring on Saturdays, so are there any other ways of doing a language course besides going to Satuday school? I heard about open high school, but what is it exactly?

You'll know when you get there I remember last year I was like, "I'm going to do 14 units. It's going to be fine. I don't know why everyone's complaining. 4U maths and 4U English... I've got this." Now it's really different and I'm sticking to English Advanced and hopefully do 12 units for HSC. I guess with effort, it's fine but I'm kinda lazy and put things off... a terrible habit.

I see no harm in doing 15 units if you don't know what you want to do
Of course you should drop a subject or 2 as soon as you know what chinese heritage is like as 15 units is a lot. I suggest doing it until the 2012ers results come out and you can get more info on the scaling, etc on chinese heritage

Doing too many subjects will consume a lot of time lol, but on the otherhand it's also good to keep doors open and have a wide range of options for your HSC

Do 15 units in year 11, just to open up your options. Besides, nothing in year 11 counts anyway, so you can do what you want, as long as you hand in all assignments and complete all assessment tasks

so you mean choose it for now, but drop it if i can't handle all the work?

it's similar to chinese continuers, i don't really know the difference yet either

This 100%. The more you try the more options you have heading into year 12.

It depends, if you dont feel comfortable with the workload then stick to 13. But its always a good idea to try more because then you have more options on what to drop.

I did Chinese Heritage in yr11 and I do Japanese Continuers (did do Extension).

I can tell you straight up that Heritage is COMPLETELY different to continuers. In Continuers you are treated like foreign babies learning the language afresh. They teach you from the grass root level. In heritage they assume that you know how to converse in Mandarin and can write fluently. All they teach is issues - I.E. VERY SIMILAR TO EXTENSION LANGUAGES!

I'm assuming you can speak Mandarin fluently? If so, then do it because it's not much work and it'll keep your options open.

i can speak and read without any problems, but writing is a bit difficult for me...whould that be a problem?
btw are you going to saturday school or doing open high school?
