Does the estimated ATAR take into account what they believe your external marks will be (based on trial marks) or does it only encompass your internal rank.

You're going to have to ask your Principal for the details. How are we meant to know their criteria?

I understand the criteria may vary; was just looking for a general answer.

I don't think there can be a "general" answer, but this is what my Career's Advisor did last year: she took into account our class ranks and looked at the previous 5 years' cohort's results. So, say if I was 5th, then she'd look back at the previous 5th ranked students and averaged their HSC mark. Using those HSC marks, she came up with an estimate.

This was my school: "We don't give ATAR estimates just in case we're wrong".

your school obviously didn't understand what an "estimate" entailed
True. I wanted one because I wanted what kind of ATAR I was aiming for so I didn't put courses that I had no hope for.

But they were like, "Ohh just in case we're wrong - we don't want you to come back here and go 'Well, you were wrong!'"

So I had to figure it out by myself... and I don't even know what everyone else did.

In more cases then one, at my school the ATAR calculator's that are floating around are at least more accurate then the principal. Best of asking your principal for the critera as stated before. Encompassing only your internal mark versus both external and internal can be quite a fair difference, Araragi.(lol)

If you need the principals estimate because your applying for a cadetship/scholarship etc...then that's fine, but if your just looking for an estimated ATAR the ATAR calculator's do a decent job.

ive done multiple assessments for each subject, more than actually count towards prelim, ie, prelim get about 5 assessments for the whole year per subject, I got 5 in one week lol. I was just asked to do a shitload of exams, then they tell me "Okay you COULD get 99.90"

a bit out of ordinary. Meh. Ofc it is nice prediction. But by no means do I give a shit in yr 11.
