I really want to go but the location is quite far away (I live baulko area), I'm just wondering do you reckon it could boost my chances of achieving a cadetship by attending?

I went to Baulko and still went. Even wore a suit. It's not so much about boosting chances but rather it's about learning about what you're signing up for, getting a feel for the firms you are applying for so you know it's what you want, meeting people who may be your potential bosses (or managers/seniors), etc... and it doesn't hurt to leave a good impression.

I can't speak for the Capital W Annual Dinner but to be honest, I don't know how much benefit you will get out of the PwC one or the KPMG one. The Meet the Business Leaders is definitely beneficial for a Year 11 student so go to that one.

But the rest are heavily targeted towards Year 12 students. It might be worth going down to the ICAA evening tonight and talking to some of the firms and stuff but the PwC and KPMG evenings are more how to apply and are just a further extension of the info given tonight and again is for Year 12 students. Go if you really want to those two events but they aren't a must because you might find them a waste of time (particularly if you plan to go next year when it actually is heavily relevant to you).

All in all, keep in mind that these events are run every single year and whilst it may help you slightly this year, you get most benefit by going in the year you're eligible to apply.
Agreed with all the above. You'll look very keen and whilst I understand the importance of leaving a good impression, there's also a good chance that you won't be remembered in a years time (or the recruiters may even change). On the plus side though you'll get a feel for what you're signing up for and see if it's what you really want, and you'll get free food/drinks :)

Thank you for your advice guys :) I really appreciate it. Yeah, I know the PWC and KMPG events are targeted towards year 12s but I'm planning to go to them anyway to be more familiar with their application/interview process and to get a better feel of those firms in their in-house information sessions. I guess it also helps me to decide whether a cadetship is suited for me and to talk to as many people as possible. Due to the increased workload, stress and pressure in year 12, I want to actively explore my career options at this early stage, especially in case I'm unable to attend those events next year (this is the person who went to 3 university open days in year 10 because I was bored in the holidays lol).
If you're interested, here are some more information about the Capital W event which I am very lucky to attend :)

@Seremify did you go tonight? just curious haha
Thanks for your concern however I don't mind if the recruiters remember me or not this year, just listening to the speeches and presentations were very helpful and inspiring. It was also a good opportunity for me to get the hang of networking and getting my questions answered on the spot. BTW I got recognised by one representative from ICAA (from last year's Meet the Business Leaders) and a people coordinator from one of the big 4 tonight (from my email about their information sessions), which was definitely a highlight!

Damn :(
I talked to the other guy who was also wearing a yellow shirt (the other girls wore pink shirts, right?), and after about 5 minutes into the conversation I was wondering whether he was you, but then he turned out to be a first year cadet lol.

/fail

p.s. I was the girl who was wearing a green tartan blazer, just in case you remember (probably not)

If you PM me your first name/school then I might remember a bit better- I think I do. There's a reason why everyone I met I asked their name (by introducing myself) and then made a comment about school if I recognised the crest/logo/uniform.

Woot, saw seremify today!!!

I've decided to adopt the common pronunciation of "sur emm iff ee" as opposed to what I originally intended of "sur emm iff ayeee"

ps. It was great meeting everyone tonight- I think I met like 6 or 7 people from BoS... but it doesn't count if most of them knew me from my school >_> or does it?

I just realised when after I left that I've forgotten to ask you about your experiences in new york though :(

Hey guys, I was in the same position as a lot of you last year & this thread helped me heaps, so if anyone has questions about the cadetship applications/interviews i'd be happy to help.
(I'm not working or anything yet though, so I can't give you guys any insight there)

& Just a heads up, KPMG does rolling recruitment, meaning that they go through applications & offer interviews before the closing date, so if you're keen i guess its good to submit your application as early as possible.

If an HR person replied to an application and told you they would contact you the next week to arrange an interview, then never contacted you... would you give up hope and assume they had just found someone else? (bearing in mind this is now over a week later)

I emailed the other day and didn't get a reply, so I'm assuming if they don't have time to reply to an email then they wouldn't have time to talk on the phone
