How about a man who went into a restaurant and ate everything in the restaurant and they had to close the restaurant and now he feels he doesn't belong because there's no restaurant.

These often end up being the best if you can put a twist on them. Also you need to imagine you are the main protagonist-- place yourself in their shoes and show rather than tell. Use of metaphors and similes can sometimes help!

There is a great guide out there on creative writing in one of the older forums (2009.. I think)- my suggestion would be to conduct a search and try to find it.

Also, with that in mind trying writing in different creative styles. The traditional form of a narrative may be limiting your abilities.

I have heaps of problems with creative writing as well!! I finally ended up with a story I'm satisfied with because I tried to make a setting first rather than an actual storyline. I then created a character (which took a lot of thinking) that was actually realistic and did have issues with belonging. I avoided the cliches by making these two elements completely different from what I know others would have written.

I'm not too good at creative writing but that's the most I can do to help. It worked for me so hopefully, you will have the same luck.

Write about how a relationship develops with two people in a small setting. E.g. a girl who leaves the country-side to live in the city comes back acting differently
--> their relationship falls apart. Okay, that is completely cliche but it's how you write that determines how the story will flow. Like, you make ordinary objects/ideas seem more extraordinary than they actually are.

Cliched. Yes, you can make a cliched story excellent through your expression and writing, but it's a lot easier to start off with an interesting, engaging, non-cliched idea in the first place.
