Hey guys I'm still in Prelim, but what ATAR could I get with my current Prelim ranks?

English Advanced: 8-9/50
English Extension 1: 6-7/16
Mathematics Extension 1: 1-2/20
Mathematics Extension 2: 1-2/8
Physics: 4-5/26
Modern History: 3/20
Studies of Religion 1 HSC: 13/120

My school is currently ranked 79th from 63rd in 2010

Meh... was expecting a bit more

Where should I improve?
I reckon if you pull your English ranks up by a couple of spots and Studies of Religion; definitely 97/98+

Your biggest problem is SOR imo

98 is achievable at this rate.

My school's average statistics show that our school gets 12-15 band 6s in English Advanced pretty much every year, but English Extension stats aren't that great... Wouldn't that help me at all?

Nah, SOR is easy, getting a Band 6 isn't terribly hard. Given the large cohort, it would be reasonable to assume the top quarter should do reasonably well. I wouldn't consider it to be the "biggest problem", I'd be more worried about Modern and Physics, given the amount of raw content in each of those subjects.

Rank becomes almost irrelevant in content-intense subjects, because you can come first yet not achieve Band 6 because you haven't nailed the content.

I don't think that English Ext would be that big of a problem seeing that you have 12 units. Also, SOR may not count in your case as well. However, this is only if you choose to do 12 units in yr12.

How can you be so sure you are going to finish top 2 in MX2 course if you are currently doing the 2 unit course?

ahaha. True though, finished top in grade 11 however now in grade 12 ranks for ext1 about 30th and ext2 30th. Its hard to predict based on 11 results but you can be sure the competition will become much more stiffer in year 12 especially if its a good school i.e. <rnk50 or so.
however based on these ranks I would say 97.5 if your 'predictions' are accurate.
