You have to realise that sometimes Wolfram does not take the simplest way to do the question.

For example, a simple integral involving a single application of the Weierstrass substitution could take several applications of the U substitution.

And you are also missing out on a bit of context (probably because you don't venture much into School). Juantheron is infamous for posting up very difficult questions, which is why Drongoski asked him if he was serious. See the post directly above yours.

Like Carrotsticks said, Wolfram doesn't always give you the best method. It gives "a" method, but not necessarily the best method. One example would be:



Wolfram gives some long, unnecessary method; it could be easily solved in half the working out and time.
