I was wondering, for state rankings, are those based on the combined school and HSC mark or just the HSC mark?

And how difficult is it to get 100 in 3U maths HSC? About how many people will actually get it?

whether you will get 100 or not depends on the difficulty on the exam, either way getting full marks will be tough
and i assume the state rank is given out by just the hsc mark, correct me if im wrong someone,

Difficulty: Beat the state and you will be guaranteed 1st. For 100 in 2U you could come something like 5th in the state. Just focus on doing what you are suppose to be doing.

100 in 3U isn't neccessarily full marks. One of my friends this year ranked third at school (internal of 99) and got 83/84 external (100 external) which gave him 100 HSC mark.

Our school is ranked around the 20's but we generally do really well in maths and english drags us down...

coming third in your school is obviously really good and achieving 83/84 is pretty amazing as well. maybe that's why he got 100? but he didn't get a state ranking?

State ranks must be based on external marks as well as internal marks, otherwise there would not be only a single person or just a couple per rank. eg) The mathematics state ranks, at least 20 people in the state last year would have scored marks in the 118-120 region, yet there were over 7 individual rankings for it, this suggests that there must be some other determining factor as well
