Just remember that English is going to count in your ATAR. You can't avoid this, so don't make a practice of not preparing for English.

Some people with medical degrees are actors (ie.... Ken Jeong from "Community")..... ..medicine is hard to get into..... but.....you don't need an atar to get into medicine (seriously, OP, if u get crappy ATAR....... find other ways into medicine, like GAMSAT)

"few people make it and many fail"...... 100% true.....BUT some people fail (perhaps many times) then make it
True. What I was trying to point out is that medicine is extremely difficult to get into and isnt like most other degrees in terms of difficulty. I know heaps of people who failed to make medicine and only one person who did make it. It took that person 5 years and multiple attempts to make it in - and he had a high UAI and very strong UMAT score when he tried out from high school.

How do you feel about 10 units? I drop ext 1 maths so I only have 10 now.
But I feel like I wasted so much time on ext
Dunno I'm glad I dropped extension at the end of the day but I kind of wish I had some other subject as a back up. Having the free periods and extra time feels good though, you are right Ext is so demanding. What about you?

Sounds like you want to do medicine? I like what you wrote. Hear hear.

Yeah but in the end, it probably wouldn't even count anyway so it would be a waste of time. Yes, so many free periods! :D

With regards to medicine, make sure you assess whether or not you have a realistic shot of making it into the degree. You need to be aiming for at least 98.5 in order to have a decent shot of medicine. Also, make sure you have good back up options in the likely event that you dont make it into the degree. I know that this sounds harsh, but medicine is extremely difficult to get into. I've said this before, but getting into medicine is like trying to make it as an actor or professional soccer player, in that few people make it and many fail.
I am fairly certain becoming a professional soccer player is WAY harder than landing medicine, that being said still a good analogy.

You would be suprised. From what I've seen, its extremely tough and its difficulty isnt to be under-estimated.

Just keep trying :) I ranked ~120/~200 in one assessment for english worth 20%, ended up with rank 13 and a HSC mark of 98 :) Just don't get discouraged!

You can't change your past, but you can determine your future. Therefore, work hard now and keep motivating yourself. ^^

Wow! 98 :) Firstof all, Congrats!
Did you attend a high ranked selective school? Someone told me that for non-selective schools the difference between 1st and 5th can be a major difference! Was a bit depressed because I was marked unfairly for my Belonging speech: 5th with a score of 20.5/25 :evilfire:, but then I improved my rank to first place by scoring 18.5/20:thrust: in Frankenstein.
- So relieved that I'm ranked 1st now - 2nd highest mark was 13/20

I'm confused! Is it true that it is a huge difference for non-selective schools between 1st and 5th/6th/7th out of 25 students?
There are 25 students undertaking the Advanced English course at my school.

If there's only 25 don't let the 1st ranking get to your head. My school has 150 doing advanced.
If there's only 25 there's not much competition because in some schools you'd probably be ranked 5th or something.
But great work on those results, you must be a natural in writing

Thank you so much:) So relieved! The highest mark was 23/25 anyway lol :)
But, I;m so happy for Frankenstein.
LOL!! I'm definitely not a 'natural' writer. I just practice a lot, past papers, hard questions and analyse every second of the scene (films) LOL
The only reason I want to attain a first place is because my Advanced class is not that good, as you can see 13/20 was the 2nd highest mark! So, I want my external mark to be the same as my internal mark! If I ace 1 more exam, and 2 modules + trails, then I'm set.

Ranking is more important with non-selective schools. But only because in selective school the ability between students is relatively similar.
E.g. Last year in my Ancient exam my friend got 21/25, ranked 6th and I got 20/25 and i ranked 12th out of 24 students . Thats a huge 6 ranks because of one mark.
However in schools like yours where the difference between 1st and 2nd is 5 marks or 25% it is so much important to be ranked higher and do well

Thank you! Yeah, I felt like I was marked unfairly too, got this teacher who hated my ee2 as well :/ Ranked top 10 for every other assessment and 2nd in trials, so I managed to pull the ranks back up. I went to a top 20 private school. Good work with the essay, keep at it! Yes, there can be a major difference. If you think about it, 1st -> 5th out of 25 is kind of like 1st -> 40th out of 200. Just keep doing your best and you won't have to worry about it :)
