Question regarding Bcomm/Bsci (1 Viewer)

Hey guys I have quite a bit of questions so just bear with me, any help is appreciated

1. UNSW told me before UAC deadline that I could drop down from adv math to just regular science or drop it all together anytime I want. Since I had an ATAR enough for all of them they suggested I just go with the highest one (Adv. Math) since it is always easier to drop down than move up. So does anyone know or have any advice on how to drop down to science?

2. Say I do comm + science now, I want to major in actuarial studies so for comm cores I would have ACCT1501, ECON1101, MGMT1001 and MATH1151 (for actuarial), does this mean I have to do all the science stuff second semester? I want to major in math for science but math1141 isn't offered in second semester, while mgmt1001 is, so would I instead swap mgmt1001 for math1141 for 1st semester?

uhh, if you have done math1151, you don't have to do math1141 anymore because they're both similar. I'd recommend you swap mgmt1001 with scif1121 instead because scif1121 is not offered in sem 2 either (if I'm right.....)

yeah your right, but since I'm dropping down to just science degree, e.g. I dont really wanna do honours for adv math after talking to some practising actuaries, I don't need SCIF1121

You could always put Science as a higher preference, get an offer and then accept that offer in a later round.

And you follow your degree rules as per the handbook.

Doesnt that mean I have to redo my timetable? I'm scared by then all the time slots will be shit lol.

Also the handbook said 1 course of first year math is compulsory. Does that mean MATH1151 for actuarial covers that criteria already? Because when I try to enroll in Higher math1141 A, it says it is excluded by math1151. I'm guessing that is becaues both courses are similar, but would this undermine any requirements for the science program?

MATH1151 and MATH1141 are mutually exclusive, since in MATH1151, you learn all of the content in MATH1141, but with extra bits and a few changes (MATH1151 does probability in semester 1 whereas MATH1241 - the maths course that follows MATH1141, does that topic in semester 2). So ultimately you don't have to take MATH1141, just take MATH1151.

Yeh 1151/1251 we learn some different stuff, to 1141/1241, vice versa.

We did double integrals in 1251, when 1241 did nothing of that. And we did more multivariable calculus, and I think we did more on markov chains, only because I think we use them more in second and third year.

Also in 1151/1251 you learn matlab ( a mathematical computing program ), 1141/1241 learn maple ( another mathematical program ).

Matlab is more computational, whereas maple is more symbolic (that's what the lecturer said anyway)...
