Do you think the cutoffs for 2012 will jump significantly this year due to our largest HSC group of 72K???

I doubt it.

Last year's HSC cohort had 71,130 students so the jump is fairly marginal. There are loads of degree programs in Australia so that jump will be spread out relatively evenly.

I just got an offer last night at 12:40AM (International) and I only beat the cut-off by 0.15

Theoretically a lot, realistically, not much at all.

what a silly assertion
it's all supply and demand, just because there are lots of programs does not mean that people will want to do all of those programs, at all the universities

The jump can be huge in some courses in either direction and miniscule in other courses, again in either direction - based on supply and demand.

~72 000 doing the HSC doesn't mean ~72 000 applied for university study...

They fluctuate from year to year - depending on supply and demand, as asserted by Azamakumar and cem.

Case in point:

Law over the past few years at UNSW:

2002: 99.50
2008: 99.30
2009: 99.40
2010: 99.55
2011: 99.65

So yeah, it can go up, and it can go down. Clearly, in 2008 (Class of 2007), less people who got 'higher' UAIs wanted to do UNSW law, for whatever reason, and hence, the cutoff went down.

Or the university offered more places.

When you have read the following article you should sit back and relax because even the universities themselves don't know how things will pan out

After reading this articles you will realize that THIS YEAR is entirely different to previous years as the universities FOR THE FIRST TIME decide how many students to whom they wish to make offers. Reason why ATAR probably be LOWER this year

Reason why University of Sydney may have been in trouble for unethical conduct - desperation

Reason why you should be satisfied with you mark and be thankful you will not be doing the HSC next year when changes may be made to reduce plagiarism. Its is a possible explanation for why many students got better ATAR
