hey, I recieved an atar of 93.5 although UNSW commerce is 96.7, i am elligible for 5 bonus marks through hsc plus and some bonus marks through EAS which will take my selection rank above 100, Will I 100% recieve an offer for the course or will I have to wait and see and be put behind others who achieved cutoff w/o bonus points.

are people that use bonus points placed lower in the pecking order? or does the system disregard that and just mix bonus pointers with everyone else?
They mix bonus points with everyone else.

Unlikely. There'll be 1000-1500 doing a course... very unlikely. You'll just see people you know.

does a person with an atar of 93 with 5 bonus points have the same chance of getting in with a 98 ATAR student?
or does the 98 atar student get 5 bonus points as well?, thus pushing they're atar up to 103...?

and around how many students are enrolled into commerce each year? (includes all combined degrees eg. comm/eng, comm/law etc)

Well, if the 98 ATAR student has 5 bonus points - then their ATAR is 99.95. So they're not the same.

But if the 'selection rank' is both 98, then they are considered equally. So a person with 98 + 0 bonus points ATAR is considered the same as someone with 93 + 5 bonus points.

And Commerce probably has 1000 or so, maybe?

I agree, if the uni had to choose between a student with 96 ATAR plus 5 and one with 98 ATAR plus 5, the 98 ATAR student would get in - simply because their raw atar is higher (even though both students ATAR's amount to 99.95 with bonus points).

seems too good to be true. i'm not getting my hopes up!
I was told that they are just filling extra spots so that the placements will be down to 100%, since people will drop out. Ie. the unis will overload the places, and then people will drop out, thus resulting in the places filled around 95%

Has it been confirmed?
