If your a hardcore gamer, then Xbox is the way to go. But if your a casual gamer who wants an all round entertainment system, ps3 is the way to go.

PS3 IMO

ps3 has its fair share of 12 yr olds as well.

I suggest going for the console your friends have - it's fun to play multiplayer (ie shooters like BF, COD) with your friends.
Alternatively, you could consider getting a PC - then you get awesome graphics, mods, etc etc although you do need a decent PC to be able to play video games on it.

Also, check out the list of exclusives each console has e.g. Demon's Souls and Heavy Rain are exclusively for the PS3, games like Gears of War and Halo are only on the Xbox and see if there are any games you want to play.
Ultimately, whichever console you buy there will be a ton of games to play on it, you'll have fun either way.

From my experience (http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=270065) all these arguments come down to personal preference. They both have positives and negatives and these discussions usually turn into massive round-a-bout arguments (and also people who just say get a PC :(). If you have an exclusive you'd particularly like, go for that console, but otherwise, what ever you can get a better deal on.

I was so confused when I saw one of your posts in another thread.

I dunno, PC gaming that can be done on a console is slowly dying, everything is pretty much a console port now. :(

I'm thinking of purchasing a ps3, but I always buy consoles at the end of their reign so I'm wondering if I should wait a few months for the ps4. But I'm not sure! /firstworldproblems

Ps3, since the online is free instead with Xbox you have to pay for it.
