I heard a person last year got 89 in the Asian five: English adv, MX1, MX2, Phys, Chem and Eco. He still ended up with 97.5 ATAR though

Oh no, 89s everywhere. How will you survive?

Seriously, grow up.
An 89 is 1 different to a 90, and a shiny little award for getting straight 90-somethings is cool and all, but really it's a trivial little thing, and will most likely have no real influence on your life. If you feel inferior because someone got straight 90s and you got straight 89s, well stop feeling inferior and ignore them and their 'oh-so-superior band 6s'.
I would've killed for an 89 in any of my subjects. But i didn't get any. You know what? I don't care. I regret not working harder this year, so the fact i got an 80.35 is almost surprising. And life goes on. When uni starts, there'll probably be a little bit of comparing hsc results, but after a month or two, it won't matter at all, since everyone will be on an even playing field again.

also to the guys in this thread saying they were so close. the board of studies clearly focuses on separating band 5 students from the band six students. hence the difference between an 89 and a 90 would be greater than the difference between a 87 and a 86. therefore you might not be as close as you think.

but still great effort by all.

I got 89 for Legal, wanted to kill myself! Wouldve done anything to get at least one band 6, but meh im happy with what i got. Then, the ATAR calculator estimated my ATAR as 85.30 and i was really happy with that but today got 84.50. This is much higher than what i expected but i still hoped for an 85. Happy but i still got that feeling that something is missing here.

One of my closest friends got 89.95 as her ATAR last year. That, my friends, is the worst mark that exists.
I bet 99.95 UAI back when 100 UAI was max would have been far worse haha! Infact i wouldn't be surprised if that's half the reason they capped it off, 100 sounds a lot better than 99.95 but 99.90 and 99.95 seem equally as impressive (lol ok, maybe some of you Ruse and Baulko people might think differently =P)

Bahahahaha i should have read the whole thread before posting...
