I will not because I believe in securing our nations wealth and prosperity for future generations. This reckless plundering must stop. This legislation is about securing our tomorrow, today.
u greens just keep saying that. what wealth and prosperity? because if it's anything to do with the environment (i assume it is!) then even if aust stops emissions and goes back to the stone age, it will not make a difference at all.
if ur gonna go on about moral obligation... that's hypocritical coming from the postmodernist side of politics. this means all that ur doing is enforcing ur own morals on society, something u unceasingly complain of being done to u.
and if ur one of the rare right wingers that support this policy, then the above may not apply to u, but ur too small a minority to have much voice at all!

How is turning australia into this the right direction?
Oops, my bad - I forgot how the famine in Africa was caused by the Kenyan government's attempts to make polluters responsible for their emissions. How silly of me! Boy, I'm really not looking forward to a future where there is some degree of accountability regarding negative externalities.

Today science has won out over dogma, reason over belligerence. As the polls begin to improve for the Gillard government it is clear that we have stemmed the tide of politics of greed and self interest wrapped in the thinly veiled cloak of scientific scepticism. As we sail forth towards a clean and sustainable future in spite of the vitriolic attacks and the comic denial I feel the hand of history is on our shoulders. This is a day for all Australians to join together and celebrate the courage of its government in taking action to combat the greatest moral challenge of our time.
I agree. Gillard has improved significantly over the past 3 months, her position as Labor leader is no longer untenable.

the tax is what i like to call retributive punishment on businesses....
businesses that established themselves, conforming to govt's rules and regulations, are now being punished because of their actions, which were once the same actions that the government gave them the A-Ok for.
the carbon tax is a load of shit.
yes, perhaps per person, we do produce a lot of carbon, but as a nation we produce something like 1% of the world's total carbon emissions. yep, carbon tax in australia is really going to reduce the 1% that we produce as a nation folks.
(or maybe we'll just import materials from overseas, close our pre-existing high profiteering industries...end up with a crazy number of unemployed people all in the name of 'saving our green planet!':p)
gosh I love you do you wanna make out or something

it's not a negative externality if no one believes it is

I am a part of the overwhelming majority of Australians who in 2009 sent out very clear messages to the leadership of the Liberal Party: Get that emissions trading scheme passed. Many of us have since succumbed to the belligerent invective of which we were subjected to from Jones, Bolt, Murdoch and the rest of the hate media but those of us who never gave up the fight are proud to now be standing up for the silent majority of Australians who believe in action against climate change, who believe in putting a price on carbon and who believe in a sustainable future.
