1-5 takes about 45-50 minutes.

Q6 takes about 15 minutes.

Q7 takes over 60-65 minutes. Basically I spend the whole fucking hour raking my brain trying to figure out how to finish Q7 LOL

Btw how are you meant to use reading time? I normally scan thru the paper in the first 30seconds, and then spend the rest of my time twiddling my thumbs... im guessin ur meant to take advantage of it?
refer to page 1... and yeah i get that sometimes lololol depending on the paper. idk i keep making retarded errors when you have to do the nasty calculus and re-arranging the eqn ones at the end = gay answers where i can't figure out what i did wrong = spend 15 mins looking for the square root i missed or something

whole exam should take you about 1hour 30 minutes working comfortably.

q 1-4 about half an hour

q 5-6 about half an hour

q 7 about half an hour
it takes me 40 to do q1-4 :( did another one today, same result ugghh

do people only take 5mins to do q1 and 5 to do q2 because that's insane especially when they make us draw a diagram

i hate drawing diagrams. are hsc markers as pedantic as school ones? like with scale on each axis? idk but the parabola in the exemplar answers looked kinda dodgy lol... shit the exemplar answers are otherwise amazing, no crossing out etc., so amazingly neat... i usually just ignore the lines on the paper once it gets to q5 and start using 2-3 booklet lines for 1 handwritten line lol

for the HSC, use your reading time wisely and try figure out the circle geo question before the exam starts so you dont have to waste time on it later.
That's a good idea, thanks for the suggestion.

Also, I typically spend...
Q1-Q3 - 5-10 minutes each [10+/12]
Q4-Q5 - 15 minutes each [9+/12]
Q6 - 20 minutes [6+/12]
Q7 - 10 minutes - leaving out half of the marks because I can't do it. [6+/12]

Q1-Q2 - 5-10 minutes each [11+/12]
Q3 - 10 minutes [7+/12]
Q4-Q5 - 15 minutes each [11+/12]
Q6 - 15 minutes [9+/12]
Q7 - 20 minutes [7+/12]
why only 7/12 for q3?

personally
Q1-Q2 - 7 minutes each [12/12]
Q3-Q4 - 20-25 minutes together [12/12] with the odd 11
Q5-6 - ~15 minutes each [10+/12] with the odd 9
Q7 - 20+ minutes [anywhere from 6 to 12/12]

hmmm.... i've done papers where i've done q1-5 without taking a single break of thinkin, i.e. continuous writing nonstop yet it took me about 50 minutes - and i wrote fast...
Its probably because you're taking the long-winded solution rather than the short succint one. The key to 3u maths is not to find the right answer, there are often a dozen ways to do so, but finding the most concise and elegant answer. You'dd be surprised to know that almost every question has at least one short and elegant solution. Its your job to find it and it helps you deal with time constraints.

To be brutally honest, I don't put any effort into managing my time

I do the exam in about 45 minutes and I don't care how much time is spent on each question

@btb94: Hell yes, they're too easy and I have to concentrate so hard when I'm going back through because I know there's a silly mistake in there somewhere....

45 min to do an exam? That's impossible -- even if you write the MINIMUM amount of working out in order to satisfy the marking guidelines by 100%, and you don't take a break, and you write as fast a possible, you can't finish in 45 minutes.

Remember, if you are smart enough to do most of the questions in your head, you won't get full marks, the show questions require you to provide working out, in addition you need to provide a sufficient amount of working out to show the marker that you didn't just jump from your working out to the answer provided because you didn't know what to do.

I would imagine quite a few. Its not amazingly difficult for an adept 4 unit student.

I don't pay particular attention to the time I spend...I just ensure that I don't stop on one question for too long.
Look either way, I reckon for the actual exam its better to go slow and easy!

nah i make stupid mistakes no matter how slow or fast I go, so it's better to go faster the 1st time and check the 2nd time lol

especially since i panic if i reckon i might not finish the paper or figure something out in time (usu I start panicking if I'm only starting or mid-way through q5 and 1hr has passed already)
