I just was looking at random MX2 questions and I came across this, it was on a trial paper in Q7 - I could be totally wrong since I haven't done any 4U probability...

A box contains 6 cards, two of them are identical. From this box 3 cards are drawn without replacement.
(i) How many different selections could be made.
(ii) What is the probability that a selection will include two identical cards.

My 3U style solutions:
(i) You can pick none, one or two of the identical cards so:
Two I (I, I, 4 options) = 4C1 = 4 ways
One I (I, 4 options, 3 options) = 4C2 = 6 ways
No I (4 options, 3 options, 2 options) = 4C3 = 4 ways
Total = 4+6+4 = 14 ways

(ii) P(Two I) = 4/14 = 2/7

Am I right? :D

imo to those who say harder 3U is the hardest topic out there, I reckon that some harder 3U questions are not THAT hard compared with other Q7s and Q8s. So just in case if you think you can't do harder 3U, don't think that, because there are TONNES of questions which are quite doable for most students. As well as that, inequalities questions get repeated again and again and you'd be basically rote-learning that stuff.

Btw who is aiming for high 90s in MX2? anyone here? :O
Satisfied with 94 for MX2 and 97 for MX1. I've been getting 105/120 in past HSC papers.

I actually like harder extension one a lot more than some of the standard topics that you can get taught.
Mostly because for harder extension one you have to be smart to get it but you have to work hard to learn all the other topics and I'm a lazy cunt.

?
105/120 = 99 external mark?
no 105 = 97
but anything 94 or higher would just scale to a mark with an atar equivilant of 99.95, so you may as well spend your time on other subjects because there is really little marginal gain

so anything from 94 - 100 wont get you anything extra for your atar at all?

Yea I love doing Harder 3U stuff because it's fun and challenging - but hate it when I can't get it out haha.

it would impact, but very little
WOOHOOO
Im probably expecting like 85-90 for hsc since theyre way harder than trials. Wait this is raw marks right? Otherwise with scaling id get 99.95 (for 4u) for sure.
if i get around 85 that means ill be doing decent... right.......?
holy shit that means like 70% goes to like high 90s?
i never knew 4u was THAT good. gg

nah but the aggregate mark would go slightly up, like say 0.5 point, as opposed to like 2 points on other subjects
This.
Aggregate would go up. But not much for the amount of work you'd have to put in.

ATAR Equivalent just means that if all your subjects had a scaled mark equal to this, Y, then you would get X ATAR. It only shows 99.95 because that's the limit.
