Hi,

My Rank:

English (Advanced) - 117/152
Chemistry - 50/72

Do you think I can get Band 6 if I try hard for my upcoming HSC?

School Rank 40~42

Hi,

It is possible as your school ranked 40~42 last year.

Its possible, but I doubt it due to the fact that at a school ranked ~40 in the state, approximately the top 27% in each subject get a band 6.

I really hope I'm wrong, but OP dont be deluded, its extremely unlikely.
I do not get it. Why is it unlikely?

School rank is pretty high compare to your previous school, Mr. Enoilgam. ONLY 2 Band 6s? I got 5?

Approximately the top 27% of students in a subject get a band 6 at a school ranked around 40. OP isnt even top 50%.

Also, internal marks will drag him down - if he gets an internal less then 80 in a either, then it wont matter if his external is 100 as it wont be enough to bring him into a band 6. I think atm he will probably get an internal of low 80's in each which will mean that he will need high 90's (near state ranking level) in the externals to get a band 6. If his internal performance is anything to go off, its extremely unlikely that this will occur.

However, like I said, hopefully I can be proven wrong but I think its highly unlikely.

Okay, it is pretty clear but coming 150/170s or whatever in the top 40 better than coming 1/10s in the top 250???

A band 6 is still unlikely. But if you and the OP want to believe that its likely to happen- then go ahead.

But I am saying coming 150/170s or whatever in the top 40 better than coming 1/10s in the top 250??? Is it or is it not? I am not sure.

Who is OP? I just want to know. Is it?
The original poster. Its hard to say whether 1/10 at a school ranked 250 is better then someone ranked 150/170 at a school ranked 40. I'd imagine that in most instances, the person ranked 1st at the 250 would be better, but it really varies.

I would imagine there are more than 10 people in a school ranked 250.

What does my DA count have to do with this discussion?
Just want to know. Your internal marks were good?

I got 5 band 6es even though I was bottom fifteen for most of my subjects. (TOP 10 SCHOOL IN N.S.W.) I am pretty sure OP can get it.

Ok then. Btw, I got 4 band 6's accross 7 units, in some cases my external marks were better, in some worse and in others they were equal. But my internal marks pretty much reflected my ranks.
