(a) you write your centre and student number within reading time?

(b) you right tips on your hand, say you got stuck on qs 6 for example, can you right qs 6 on your hand so you know to come back to that question in the end?

Imo I thinking it's risky doing either of these. and better just to ask for scrap paper and wait until exams are over to write numbers on papers.

a) I think you can do it in reading time

b) Just write on the desk instead. Less chance of being accused of cheating.

a) Not sure about that I got told off for doing it at uni but might be different for HSC

b) I can't see why not provided it's during the exam and not in reading time

Lol? Did they think you were trying to communicate with someone or what?
Yeah. And once I was tapping my finger, thinking (not loudly, so it annoyed others, but still tapping). They thought I was tapping out morse code.

It depends on the invigilators, for my HSC, the BOS ones were way more easy going then my school teachers.

I don't even know Morse. :p

Our BoS invigilators were hired to invigilate our exams from the end of Year 9, so we'd be 'accustomed' to them. They were generally annoying as all get out (especially the head invigilator).

Always follow the instructions of the staff. Often they will allow you to write your centre and student number on your booklets prior to reading time. Don't touch your pen during reading time or you will attract attention.

Bring a pencil and write notes on somewhere you know will attract your attention later in the exams. Erase your notes near the end.

The head supervisor of my HSC exams was the wife of my maths teacher. It made the whole thing more... pleasant knowing that the supervisor wasn't out to kill us.
