Why is it that Studies of Religion (SOR) 1 unit scales more that Studies of Religion 2 unit? I have gone on many ATAR calculators and SOR 1 unit seems to give a better ATAR. This makes absolutely no sense, could somebody please explain?

Probably because the stronger students at Catholic schools (and these students have to do 1 unit at least) only do 1 unit. The weaker students do the 2 units.

As a result when the 1 unit cohort is compared to the 2 unit cohort they perform better and thus the subject scales better.

Scaling, remember is the process of comparing students to get a ranking so a subject that has stronger students will do better than a subject with weaker students.

I did SOR2 because I thought it scaled better!!!

Both one unit and two unit dont scale as well as many people think. I can tell you for a fact that last year, an 86 in economics was worth more than 90 in SOR 1.

I knew it scaled shit. No one does it for scaling. I just thought it scaled better than 1 unit.

Apparently SOR 1 scales higher than Bio for the last time i checked. Was quite shocked.

Plus it gives me time to focus on my more important subjects
