And the second ranked person who studied really really really hard gets 100. Do you get that mark?

For your internals, yes.

There is moderation based on the gaps between scores, but put simply, yes.

Why not? Say you came first by one or two marks, why not relax and let the second ranked person do all the work?

I wouldn't do it but it's there for others who want to gamble with their HSC.

It would affect the rank of your school, which does come into the equation.
